Sports National Forty Register for Futsal Refereeing Course Skip to content Forty Register for Futsal Refereeing Course Tuesday, 16 February 2010 09:30 Forty people have registered for the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) Basic Futsal Refereeing Course which starts yesterday afternoon at the SIFF Academy complex in Honiara.

This signals a very good start for Futsal refereeing in Solomon Islands with this course marking the first SIFF organized training for referees for the indoor code.

The SIFF Small Sided Games and Referee Development office said that they did not expect the number to be this high.

The target number was 25 but the amount of interest was so great that the registration was relaxed to cater for additional participants.

The interest expressed in the course is beyond our expectations, Victor Waiia, the SIFF Small Sided Games Development Officer, said.

Consequently, we have to make adjustments to cater for the extra people.

The original intention was to hold the course sessions from 4:30pm to 6:30pm in the afternoons but with this number, the participants will have to be split into 2 groups.

The first day will be an introductory session so all 40 participants can be accommodated.

From the second day, however, there will be 2 sessions; one in the morning (9:00am to 11:00am) and the other in the afternoon (4:30pm to 6:30pm).

The afternoon session will mainly be for participants who will be unavailable for the morning sessions due to work commitments.

All other participants will be registered for the morning course.

Course instructors, Victor Waiia and Justin Mutukera, are confident that this adjustment will ensure that the quality of content that is delivered to the participants will be of a high standard.

It is not good to have too many people in one class so this division of the participants into 2 groups will help us to administer the course effectively, Mutukera said.

In the opening day the course cover Futsal Laws of the Game Law 1, Law 2, Law 3 and Law 4.

The second day will cover Laws 5 9 and the third day examines Laws 10 14.

The fourth and final day covers Laws 15 17 and also extends to important topics like procedures to determine the winner, referee signals and guidelines for Futsal referees.

A theory examination will be held on Friday 19th to assess the participants.

The training is aimed at preparing referees for Futsal tournaments in Honiara and the provinces as well as for national championships.

The Honiara Mens Futsal League was affected by the lack of referees.

Participants are encouraged to make use of the course to prepare for a career as a Futsal referee.

Mutukera said that with the upcoming Futsal championship in March we have to have properly trained Futsal referees.

It is also hoped that the Basic Futsal Refereeing course will pave the way for international level Futsal refereeing courses to be held in Solomon Islands.
